Beaten 1-0 at home by Freiburg in the Conference League, Trabzonspor saw Mohamed Salah acknowledge his missed chances. The Egypt international winger, who arrived last summer after nine years at Liverpool, is calling on the Turkish club to stay united through difficult times.
On Thursday evening, Trabzonspor lost 1-0 at home to Freiburg in the Conference League. On a frustrating night for the Turkish club, Mohamed Salah made no excuses: he lamented having missed clear chances, according to Ahram Online.
The defeat weighs heavily in the league phase, where Trabzonspor sit 12th with 6 points. The Turkish club have therefore lost a home match at a time when every game counts in the push towards the qualifying places.
Chances kept out by Backhaus
The forward’s efforts ran into Freiburg goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, who kept out several of them, including one in stoppage time. An all the more maddening scenario given that Trabzonspor, beaten 1-0, were unable to get back on level terms.
The match therefore turned on a few decisive moments, and Salah himself drew the conclusions in front of journalists.
A view shared with Fabinho
Salah did not limit himself to talking about his own form. He also mentioned midfielder Fabinho, who shares his assessment of the team’s performance: “Fabinho and I know we weren’t at our best tonight.”
The Egyptian went on to take responsibility: “I had chances I should have taken, and Fabinho knows too that he could have played better. But that’s football. You can’t hide when things go wrong. We have to stay united, especially on nights like this.”
A player settled in Trabzon
Now 34, Salah joined Trabzonspor last summer after nine years at Liverpool, where he won the Premier League Golden Boot four times. Since arriving, he has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions.
According to the English daily The Sun, the Egypt international leads a simpler life in Trabzon, where he is very popular. He plays chess and goes hiking, among other things.
In the league, the club are 3rd in the Süper Lig after 10 rounds, three points behind leaders Galatasaray. Trabzonspor return to Conference League and Süper Lig action in the next round, with a chance to respond after this setback.
