Cameroon international and Rennes left-back Aboubakar Nagida will miss the first leg against Namibia on 12 November, suspended after accumulating yellow cards. Head coach David Pagou must reshuffle his left flank.
Cameroon will have to do without Aboubakar Nagida, the international left-back, who is suspended for the first leg against Namibia on 12 November, FootAfrica reports. The ban follows an accumulation of two yellow cards.
Both bookings were picked up in the first two rounds of qualifying, against the Comoros and then Congo, according to Actu Cameroun. Head coach David Pagou must therefore rebuild his left flank for the match, which counts for matchday 3 in Group G, Africa Soccer indicates. The name of the replacement has not been revealed by the Cameroonian staff.
A left flank to reinvent
The absence weighs all the more heavily given that Cameroon lead their qualifying group with 4 points after two matchdays, according to the CAF. The return leg is scheduled for 17 November.
The Cameroonian staff have not yet revealed who will step in for Nagida.
At Rennes, a rising valuation
Nagida is also enjoying a strong spell at club level. Under contract with Stade Rennais until 2029, he stood out in the draw against Juventus in the Europa League: he was involved in the move for Rennes’ first goal before winning a penalty, according to Tutto Mercato Web, relayed by Clickpresse.
Franck Haise praised him after the match: “Yes, he had a very good game, even though since the start of the season he has also had good ones in a back four. He is one of those players whose qualities are highlighted even more in that system.”
Still according to Tutto Mercato Web, relayed by Clickpresse, his value has risen from an estimated 5 million euros to more than 20 million. Porto, Inter and Juventus are reportedly tracking him, according to the same outlet: information that has not been confirmed and is, for now, a transfer-market rumour.
Beware of mix-ups
One source, Africa Soccer, presents Nagida as a young Bayer Leverkusen player. That contradicts the other sources, which place him at Stade Rennais, where he is signed until 2029.
Cameroon therefore play twice: the first leg on 12 November, then the return on 17 November. The suspension officially applies only to the first leg.
