Injured in the Champions League win over Real Betis (2-1), Guinea international striker Serhou Guirassy has been ruled out of Saturday’s home game against Elversberg. Borussia Dortmund are in talks with the Guinean federation to keep him.
After half an hour of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Real Betis (2-1), Serhou Guirassy left the pitch with a thigh problem, reports Sport365. The Guinea international striker is out of Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga home game against Elversberg on Saturday 7 November.
One question remains beyond the German league: will he be available for Guinea? No official decision has been announced, and Borussia have opened talks with the Guinean federation to keep him in Germany.
A strain, no further detail
Borussia coach Niko Kovac spoke of a “strain” without specifying the exact nature of the injury, according to Get German Football News. “Serhou has a strain and will therefore not be able to participate tomorrow,” he said, as quoted by the same outlet.
According to Sport365, the striker is not expected to play again before the league resumes on 21 November. That is a press projection, not an official club announcement.
Eight goals in fourteen games
The 30-year-old is having a solid season: 8 goals in 14 games in all competitions, according to Sport365.
His record with the Syli National is just as notable: 30 caps and 12 goals, again according to Sport365. A decision on his participation in Guinea’s camp for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers is still to be made.
In the meantime, Get German Football News names Maximilian Beier and Fabio Silva as possible replacements up front. That is only an option: the two men could fill in for the Guinean.
Dortmund in talks with the federation
On the player’s participation in the Guinean camp, Kovac set out the club’s position: “We will see how we do in the coming days. We are in discussion with the Federation, in a very good exchange. He probably will not travel. We would like him to stay here, but we will talk about it with the Federation,” he told Sport365.
The tone is conciliatory, and the club’s intention is clear: to keep the striker in Germany.
There are two next checkpoints: the decision on his presence at the Syli camp, and a return pencilled in for the resumption of the Bundesliga on 21 November.
