The 21-year-old midfielder Jarma Mohamed becomes the first Jersey Bulls player to be called up by Somalia while playing for the club, ahead of a trip to Ghana on 12 November.
Jersey Bulls have their first international. According to Hiiraan Online, Jarma Mohamed, a 21-year-old midfielder, has been recalled to the Somalia squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, while he has been wearing the colours of the eighth-tier club since the summer.
It is nothing new for the player: he had already worn the Somalia shirt in March, against Mauritius. For the club, however, it sets a precedent, as none of its players had ever been called up to a senior national team while playing for it.
A path through the big academies
Before joining the Isthmian League South Central, Jarma Mohamed came through the academies of Manchester City, Liverpool and Wigan Athletic, Hiiraan Online reports. A CV that contrasts with the level at which he plays today.
Having arrived this summer, he has played all 15 league matches this season and helped his side to top spot. On the pitch, the 21-year-old midfielder is certainly no passenger.
“A moment of immense pride”
At the club, the announcement was greeted as a major event. “It is a moment of immense pride for everyone connected with Jersey Bulls Football Club,” club director Ian Horswell told Hiiraan Online. “For Jarma to become the first player in our club’s history to receive a senior international call-up while representing Jersey Bulls is a fantastic achievement, both for him personally and for our club.”
The director also praised the player’s attitude: “His attitude, commitment and professionalism have been exemplary, and he is a tremendous example for his teammates and for the young players coming through our academy.”
Ghana in their sights
Now it is time for the qualifiers. Somalia travel to Ghana on 12 November 2026, before playing the return match four days later, according to Hiiraan Online.
