Cameroon: Aboubakar Nagida suspended for Namibia clash, Pagou seeks a solution!

Left-back Aboubakar Nagida will miss Cameroon’s first leg against Namibia on 12 November due to accumulated yellow cards. Head coach David Pagou must reshuffle his left side.

Cameroon will have to do without their left-back as they kick off their double-header against Namibia. Aboubakar Nagida is suspended for the first leg on 12 November, matchday 3 in Group G of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, according to Actu Cameroun. The sanction stems from two bookings received on the first two matchdays of qualifying, against the Comoros and then Congo.

The Indomitable Lions staff are therefore left with a headache on the left flank of their defence, as highlighted by Africa Soccer, which notes that head coach David Pagou will have to find a solution in the player’s absence. The same outlet describes Nagida as a young Bayer Leverkusen player.

Two cards, a place up for grabs

The reason is simple: two yellow cards in two matches, first against the Comoros, then against Congo, according to Actu Cameroun. The accumulation rules him out of the first leg.

The question is how David Pagou will fill the gap. The report contains no statement from the head coach and does not name his replacement, nor does it indicate whether a player already in the squad might be moved. The choice remains open just days before kick-off.

Four points and an encouraging start

Cameroon currently lead Group G with four points from two matches, one win and one draw, according to Africa Soccer. Pagou’s men therefore go into the Namibia home game top of their pool.

The Indomitable Lions, five-time African champions, are enjoying an encouraging start to their qualifying campaign, according to the same outlet. The suspension of a left-back therefore comes in the middle of that momentum.

Two matches in four days

The schedule offers little respite. Cameroon host Namibia on 12 November before travelling for the return leg on 16 November, Africa Soccer reports. Two games in four days leave little room for squad management.

Nagida will therefore only be able to play the second leg, in Namibia. Until then, Cameroon’s left side will have to cope without him, and the name of his replacement for 12 November has not leaked.
