Borussia Dortmund: Serhou Guirassy forced off injured after 34 minutes against Betis

Guinea international striker Serhou Guirassy left the pitch in the 34th minute of the Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Real Betis. The club has not yet commented on the nature of the injury.

Borussia Dortmund’s European evening ended with a bittersweet taste. Winners 2-1 against Real Betis in the Champions League, the German club lost Serhou Guirassy to injury as early as the 34th minute, according to AP News and Foot Africa. The Guinean striker was replaced by midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas, who came on in his place.

The player’s condition remains unclear. No official information has been given on the exact nature of the injury or on any likely spell on the sidelines. A club medical update is expected, with Dortmund having not specified whether the Guinean is suffering from a minor niggle or a more serious problem.

A slip as early as the 3rd minute

According to Foot Africa, the injury appears to date back to an incident very early in the match. Inside the six-yard box, Serhou Guirassy slipped, narrowly missing the ball from a cross by Dortmund defender Julian Ryerson, coming in from the right, before colliding with the near post. That contact could explain the discomfort he felt afterwards.

The striker initially carried on playing without appearing troubled, again according to Foot Africa, before having to make way in the 34th minute. According to match photos published by AP News, he had tried his luck at goal before coming off.

Dortmund win 2-1 without their striker

Deprived of Serhou Guirassy, Borussia Dortmund eventually won 2-1 against Real Betis. Fábio Silva, the club’s striker, scored in the 49th minute. Ruibal then equalised for the Andalusians, before Konstantinos Karetsas, who came on in place of the Guinean, made the difference in the 72nd minute.

The win was secured despite the early loss of their striker, whose fitness remains uncertain.

A medical update awaited

Borussia Dortmund are expected to communicate soon on the exact nature of the injury and the length of Serhou Guirassy’s absence. For now, nothing suggests the striker will miss the club’s or the Guinea national team’s upcoming fixtures.

The medical update will therefore need to clarify whether the injury is linked to the fall that occurred as early as the 3rd minute, a hypothesis put forward by Foot Africa without official confirmation.
