Tanzania: Bernard Kamongo and 24 Taifa Stars expected in Uyo to take on Nigeria!

Head coach Miguel Gamondi has named 24 players, including Bernard Kamongo, for Tanzania’s double header against Nigeria in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, with the first leg on 13 November in Uyo.

Tanzania are expected in Uyo on Sunday to prepare for their Matchday 3 fixture in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Nigeria, according to InfoStride. Head coach Miguel Gamondi has finalised his squad for the trip: 24 players, twelve of whom play in the domestic league.

Among them are three players based abroad: Novatus Miroshi (Goztepe, Turkey), Cyprian Kachewele (Kryvbas, Ukraine) and Bernard Kamongo (FC Dallas, MLS). The latter is indeed in the squad, according to an official Dallas source relayed by Dongqiudi, which states that he has been called up for the matches against Nigeria on 13 and 17 November.

Yanga and Azam well represented

The backbone of the squad comes from the Tanzanian league. Tanzanian champions Yanga FC and Azam FC each supply five players, ten of the twenty-four called up between them. Kagera Sugar and Singida Black Stars each contribute one player, bringing to twelve the number of squad members drawn from the domestic league.

Besides Kamongo, Miroshi and Kachewele, several other players are based abroad, though the report does not specify their exact number or their clubs.

The Uyo appointment

The first leg is scheduled for Friday 13 November at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, according to InfoStride. The return leg is set for four days later, on 17 November, in Dar es Salaam. The two matches therefore pit Tanzania against Nigeria just four days apart.

The squad is due to arrive in Uyo as early as Sunday, several days before kick-off.

Kamongo, the MLS card

Bernard Kamongo, a FC Dallas player in MLS, is in the squad: an official Dallas source confirmed it, and Dongqiudi relays it for the two November fixtures. He will therefore join Miguel Gamondi’s group alongside his compatriots Miroshi and Kachewele.

The Taifa Stars will therefore play in Uyo on 13 November, then host Nigeria in Dar es Salaam on 17 November.
