Five players plying their trade in European leagues have joined the Indomitable Lions U23, including goalkeeper Ali Aba, who arrives from Deportivo Marítimo, ahead of the second round of U23 AFCON qualifiers against Rwanda, according to Actu Cameroun.
The Indomitable Lions U23 den is filling up. With the second round of U23 AFCON qualifiers approaching, Cameroon is welcoming five players from European leagues, according to Actu Cameroun. Their arrival comes as the national team prepares for a double header against Rwanda.
Five profiles, five leagues
Goalkeeper Ali Aba arrives from Deportivo Marítimo in Spain. Left-back Henri Hiobi Ntola plays for GB Chaves in Portugal. Two defensive profiles among the five arrivals.
Clancy Biten, a former EFBC player, arrives from Swedish club Helsingborg. Christian Tchuante Tchuante, trained at the Kadji Sport Academy, is on the books at Železničar Pančevo in Serbia. Stéphane Aris Noubimssie plays for SK Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Republic.
Identified development pathways
While all five players currently play in Europe, the source only gives the development pathway for two of them. Clancy Biten is presented as a former EFBC player, Christian Tchuante Tchuante as a product of the Kadji Sport Academy, two structures cited by Actu Cameroun.
For Ali Aba, Henri Hiobi Ntola and Stéphane Aris Noubimssie, the outlet does not detail their development pathway. What the five players mainly have in common is their current club: Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Serbia and the Czech Republic, five different leagues.
Getting through the second round
The stated aim is clear: to get through this second round and move closer to qualification for the U23 AFCON finals. The double header against Rwanda is therefore the immediate challenge, although the source does not give the exact schedule.
Actu Cameroun provides no indication of playing time or the role planned for each of the newcomers. It remains to be seen how the staff will integrate them into the squad before the double header against Rwanda.
