FC Nantes: Saïdou Sow hit by meniscus injury, left knee again the issue

Withdrawn after a quarter of an hour against Clermont (1-1) on 30 October, Guinean defender Saïdou Sow is suffering from a meniscus problem in his left knee, reports Ouest-France. On loan from Strasbourg, he could miss the final weeks of 2026 with the Canaris.

FC Nantes are losing one of their regular starters. According to Ouest-France, Saïdou Sow, the Guinean international centre-back on loan from RC Strasbourg, is suffering from a meniscus problem in his left knee. He was withdrawn after a quarter of an hour in the match against Clermont, which ended 1-1, on 30 October.

The player underwent further tests this Wednesday, again according to the regional daily. The exact nature of the injury and the length of his absence have not been specified by the club: the projections mentioned by Ouest-France remain estimates.

A left knee already operated on

Because this left knee has a history. During his first loan spell at Nantes, six months in 2025, Saïdou Sow saw his time there cut short by a cruciate ligament rupture. The current injury affects the same joint, as Ouest-France points out.

The defender, who arrived for a second loan spell from RC Strasbourg, nevertheless seemed to have found some solidity again: he had played the first nine matches of the season with the Canaris. For a Nantes side struggling in Ligue 2, this withdrawal comes at a bad time.

An absence estimated until the winter break

Still according to Ouest-France, Saïdou Sow’s unavailability could extend until the break on 11 December. If FC Nantes play in the round of 64 of the Coupe de France, it would run until the weekend of 19-20 December. A range the club has not confirmed, and which will depend on how the knee progresses.

In a team searching for certainties, the centre-back was one of the few bright spots, according to OneFootball. His withdrawal from the centre of defence will force coach Grégory Poirier to rethink his plans for the upcoming league fixtures.

The question of the national team remains

There remains the question of the national team. His availability for Guinea in the coming weeks is uncertain, though it cannot be said that he will miss a specific camp: the actual length of his absence is at this stage only an estimate.
