CAF unveiled the ten nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year on 3 November, and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, a three-time winner, is not among them. Christiana Uzoma carries Nigeria’s hopes.
The list dropped on Tuesday 3 November: the Confederation of African Football published the ten nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year at the 2026 CAF Awards, and Chiamaka Nnadozie’s name is not on it. The Nigerian goalkeeper, a three-time winner of the category, is the big absentee from this selection, according to Dailysports.
Nigeria does not disappear from the picture altogether, though: Christiana Uzoma represents the Super Falcons there. The sources cited offer no explanation for Nnadozie’s absence.
Ten goalkeepers in the running
The ten nominees come from ten different countries: Chloe N’Gazi (Algeria), Michaely Bihina (Cameroon), Cynthia Konlan (Ghana), Mercy Sikelo (Tanzania), Fatoumata Karantao (Mali), Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco), Christiana Uzoma (Nigeria), Adji Ndiaye (Senegal), Kaylin Swart (South Africa) and Hazel Nali (Zambia), according to the list relayed by Dailysports.
Three nominations come from North and West Africa: Algeria’s N’Gazi, Morocco’s Er-Rmichi and Senegal’s Ndiaye. Southern and East Africa are represented too, from Nali’s Zambia to Sikelo’s Tanzania.
The information released does not point to any favourite at this stage.
The Indomitable Lionesses in the spotlight
Cameroon features prominently in several categories. The Indomitable Lionesses are nominated for Women’s National Team of the Year, reports Actu Cameroun. Goalkeeper Michaely Bihina flies the country’s colours in the goalkeepers’ list.
Cameroon also has a young player in the running: Myriam Maeva Nyadjou is nominated for Young Player of the Year, according to the same source.
The Women’s National Team of the Year category has ten contenders: Algeria, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, according to Dailysports. Nigeria, whose goalkeeper Uzoma is nominated, therefore remains in the running as a team with the Super Falcons.
