According to Sout Al-Malaien, winger Mahmoud Trezeguet is back, midfielder Hamdi Fathi remains absent and the staff are tracking four Ittihad Alexandria players. Head coach Hossam Hassan is due to name a 25-man squad for Malawi on 8 November.
According to Sout Al-Malaien, the Egypt national team staff, led by Hossam Hassan, are holding intensive meetings to settle on a 25-man squad after the round of 32 of the Egypt Cup. The final squad is due to be announced on 8 November, with the camp starting the following day at the national teams’ centre in 6th of October City.
Egypt face Malawi on 13 and 17 November, in matchdays 3 and 4 of the qualifying campaign for AFCON 2027. Between a returning star, an absent regular and new names in the frame, the make-up of the group is still a work in progress.
Trezeguet back, Fathi still out
Winger Mahmoud Trezeguet is reported to be back after recovering from injury and producing good performances, according to Sout Al-Malaien. He is expected to pull on the national shirt again.
By contrast, Hamdi Fathi, the Al-Wakrah midfielder, remains absent: his injury is not fully healed, according to the same source.
Four Alexandrians in the frame
According to El Balad, the staff are tracking four Ittihad Alexandria players: Momen Awad (right-back), Mostafa Ibrahim (defender), Mahmoud Emad (midfielder) and Sobhi Soliman (goalkeeper). One or two of them could feature in the next squad.
Right-back Momen Awad is attracting particular interest and is being followed by Ibrahim Hassan, the national team director.
Goalkeeper Sobhi Soliman has followed a diet and intensive training programme to lose weight and get back to fitness, Youm7 reports. His goalkeeping coach at Ittihad Alexandria is full of praise: “Sobhi is producing exceptional performances and deserves to join the national team,” he told the outlet.
A younger group before Malawi
Rejuvenation is the head coach’s other project. Again according to Sout Al-Malaien, the staff plan to call up four new players: Omar El-Saei, Tawfik Mohamed and Ahmed Eid, all three at Al Ahly, as well as Mahmoud Mamdouh, of Modern Sport.
These names remain to be confirmed: the 8 November squad is not official, and both the four Ittihad Alexandria players and the four new call-ups are for now only players being tracked or tipped.
