Borussia Dortmund: Guirassy joint top scorer in the Champions League ahead of Betis!

Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy shares top spot in the Champions League scoring charts with four goals ahead of Dortmund-Betis on Wednesday 3 November. He has also just broken into the top 5 African scorers in Champions League history.

Borussia Dortmund host Real Betis on Wednesday 3 November on matchday 4 of the Champions League. Serhou Guirassy goes into the game as joint top scorer in the competition, with four goals, according to AllAfrica.

The Guinean international striker, the German club’s number 9, shares the spot with Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Luis Suárez (Sporting Portugal) and Tresoldi (Club Brugge).

A brace in Azerbaijan

Serhou Guirassy scored twice on the pitch of FC Sabah in Azerbaijan with Dortmund. The 30-year-old striker also scored in the Bundesliga on Saturday 31 October, away to the leaders Bayern Munich, in a 2-2 draw.

In all competitions, the striker has 8 goals since the start of the season. His coach, Niko Kovac, nevertheless expects more from his centre-forward: “He creates a lot of chances but he can be even more clinical in front of goal.”

Guirassy reacted after the match: “It was important to win today, and that’s what we did.” Dortmund are currently second in the Bundesliga and sit 13th in the Champions League league phase.

On the trail of African legends

With 23 goals in 31 matches in Europe’s premier competition, Serhou Guirassy has entered the top 5 African scorers in Champions League history, according to AllAfrica. He is closing in on Sadio Mané, four goals ahead of him, and Samuel Eto’o, who leads the Guinean by seven.

He had already been joint top scorer of the 2024-2025 Champions League with Raphinha (Barcelona), with 13 goals.

A contract until 2028

Serhou Guirassy is tied to Borussia Dortmund until June 2028. According to AllAfrica, the German club’s bosses are considering talks to extend that commitment beyond that date.

Before any such talks, the club host Real Betis on Wednesday 3 November, on matchday 4 of the league phase.
