ASEC Mimosas: a first win at last, the champions climb off the bottom

Reigning champions ASEC Mimosas claimed their first win of the season by beating FC San Pedro 2-0 in the postponed Matchday 5 fixture, according to Fraternité Matin.

The wait is over for ASEC Mimosas. The reigning champions won 2-0 against FC San Pedro in the postponed Matchday 5 fixture, reports Fraternité Matin. This first league win of the season lifts the Mimosas off the bottom of the table with 5 points.

The result comes amid a disrupted start to the Ivorian season. Several matches were postponed because of the participation of four clubs from the country in the preliminary rounds of the African competitions. Their elimination should allow the calendar to return to normal, according to the Ivorian daily.

The Mimosas off the mark

For ASEC, this success is worth more than a simple line in the wins column. Crowned last season, the club had so far gone without a league win this season. With 5 points, it leaves the bottom of the table behind.

The available reports detail neither the course of the match nor its scorers. Only the official score is retained: 2-0 in favour of the Mimosas, in a postponed Matchday 5 fixture.

SOA take charge

SOA won 2-0 against CO Korhogo, a result that takes them provisionally top of the table. AFAD, for their part, won handsomely 3-0 at Yamoussoukro FC, also in a postponed Matchday 5 fixture.

SOA coach Félix Kouadio stressed how difficult the match was: “It was very hard for us physically, especially on a small pitch. Against a Korhogo team coming back from the African Cup match, international games with a competitive rhythm, they made things difficult for us, but we were united and solid.” He added: “We used our strengths, even in our weak moments. We had fewer chances, but we were very efficient. Well done to the boys who gave everything.”

SOA face a test on Thursday

The next appointment is expected next Thursday: SOA, provisional leaders, must confirm their first place against San Pedro, the daily reports.

With the elimination of the Ivorian representatives from the African competitions, the postponed matches should be cleared, according to Fraternité Matin.
