Ahead of the matches against Malawi, Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan is keeping a close eye on Moody Shelata and Mahmoud Mamdouh. Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, back with Al Ahly, returns to the national team’s plans after an injury.
Egypt’s November camp is already taking shape behind the scenes. According to Sahafah24, Egypt are holding this camp with a view to the matches against Malawi, on matchdays 3 and 4 of the CAF 2027 qualifying campaign. The staff led by Hossam Hassan regularly monitor the performances of players in the Egyptian league.
The staff have not released a final squad list. Media coordinator Mohamed Mourad does, however, indicate that several players plying their trade in the Egyptian league are under observation.
Two local profiles in the frame
Among the players being tracked, Sahafah24 names Moody Shelata, who plays for Al Qanah, and Mahmoud Mamdouh, of Modern Sport. The two names illustrate the attention being paid to players in the domestic league.
Neither of these leads is presented as a guaranteed call-up. Mohamed Mourad set out the staff’s philosophy: “The door to the national team is open to every player in the Egyptian league; the choices are based on the player’s level, performance and seriousness.”
Omar Gaber, a possible recall under review
The Omar Gaber case is also open. According to Sahafah24, a possible recall for the Zamalek player is being studied by Hossam Hassan’s staff. The player has not been announced in the squad: the matter remains under review.
This consideration follows the same logic of monitoring the domestic league, as the staff weigh up their options ahead of two CAF 2027 qualifying matches.
Trezeguet, back in the plans
The return of Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet is the other point being followed in this camp. According to Sahafah24, the Al Ahly player is back in Egypt’s plans after missing the September camp because of an injury. His return gives the head coach an extra option.
The players under observation, for their part, have not yet been called up. The announcement of the final squad for the November camp is still awaited. According to Sahafah24, Egypt will face Malawi on 13 November, before the return match on 17 November, in the CAF 2027 qualifiers.
