The Malian striker of FK Haugesund, Sory Ibrahim Diarra, has taken his tally to 31 goals in 27 Norwegian league matches, according to Journalessor.ml. He thus erases Kristian Fardal Opseth’s record, while his club sits top of the table.
Malian outlet Journalessor.ml reports that Sory Ibrahim Diarra has taken his tally to 31 goals in 27 Norwegian league matches, erasing Kristian Fardal Opseth’s record. The latter had scored 28 goals for Bodø/Glimt in 2017.
On matchday 28, the 26-year-old striker scored FK Haugesund’s second goal in the 71st minute against Hodd, in a 3-2 win. His club leads the table with 62 points.
A record that stood for nine years
It took nine years for the benchmark set by Opseth in the Bodø/Glimt shirt to fall. With 31 goals in 27 matches, the former Étoiles du Mandé player, a native of Ségou, now tops the Norwegian top flight’s scoring charts, according to Journalessor.ml’s figures.
The outlet adds that he is well clear of his pursuers: Sebastian Pingel (Strømsgodset) and Magnus Lankhof Dahlby (Stabaek) both sit on 19 goals, twelve behind the Malian.
“An extraordinary pride”
Speaking to Journalessor.ml, the man himself savoured the moment: “It’s an extraordinary pride to see an African, and a Malian at that, equal the Norwegian’s goals record from 2017 even before the end of the season. It’s simply a great honour and an inexplicable satisfaction. But I have to admit it’s thanks to my teammates.”
Haugesund top of the table
FK Haugesund sit first with 62 points, from a record of 20 wins, 2 draws and 6 defeats, again according to Journalessor.ml. Strømsgodset follow on 60 points and Kongsvinger on 59.
The outlet also notes that the Malian striker has scored at least one goal in every match.
More goals to come
The Norwegian season is not over yet. Diarra can still extend his record over the final matchdays.
