Borussia Mönchengladbach: Waël Mohya, 17, sends the Bundesliga into a frenzy!

Waël Mohya, 17, an attacking midfielder at Borussia Mönchengladbach, is attracting interest. According to Sky Sport Germany, Bayern Munich are interested, while Morocco are trying to convince him to wear their colours.

At 17, Waël Mohya has become a player closely followed by Germany’s big clubs. His national team is also the subject of a battle between Germany and Morocco.

Born in Mettmann, Germany, he joined Mönchengladbach at the age of 8. At 16 years, 9 months and 28 days, he became the youngest player in the club’s history to appear in a competitive match.

Improved output this season

This season, Waël Mohya has 3 goals and 1 assist in 8 matches. He had 2 and 1 the previous season, mainly as a substitute. The progress comes as Gladbach were on a run of six consecutive defeats.

In Gladbach’s first win of the season, against Stuttgart (3-2), after those six defeats, he scored and provided an assist.

Bayern and the competition

According to Sky Sport Germany, Bayern Munich find his profile particularly appealing. Dortmund, Leverkusen and Leipzig are also monitoring the situation, according to Sport.fr. For now, these interests remain speculation.

Under contract until June 2028, Mohya is the subject of these approaches, while Gladbach want to extend his deal. According to Sport1, sporting director Rouven Schröder nevertheless commented on a likely departure: “This dream is bigger… the club needs to generate transfer revenue”. A departure could happen next summer.

National team choice still pending

A Germany youth international, Waël Mohya is also eligible for Morocco, who are trying to convince him. Contacts have taken place with the Moroccan federation, according to Sport.fr.

In March, he told Kicker he had not yet made any decision on his national team. The choice between Germany and Morocco is therefore still to come.
