Racing Santander: Yassir Zabiri blasts the winner against Espanyol

At 21, Moroccan striker Yassir Zabiri gave Racing Santander a 2-1 win over Espanyol, his eighth goal of the season in La Liga. His coach, José Alberto López, was full of praise for him.

On Saturday 24 October 2026, on matchday 10 of La Liga, Racing Santander beat Espanyol 2-1. The decisive goal was scored by Yassir Zabiri, a 21-year-old striker who also plays for the Morocco national team.

The player found the net in the 84th minute, following a corner and a scramble in the box, according to Foot Africa. Racing, who had strung together disappointing results before this win, are back to winning ways.

Expósito had put Espanyol ahead

The match had not started well for the Cantabrians, though. Edu Expósito opened the scoring for Espanyol in the 62nd minute, reports Africa Soccer. Seven minutes later, Jeanuel Belocian equalised for Racing, bringing the game back to life.

This is Racing’s third win of the season in the league, notes Africa Soccer. It comes after a run of disappointing results for the club, according to Foot Africa.

Eight goals in ten games

With this goal, Zabiri takes his La Liga tally to eight in ten league games this season, according to Foot Africa. He is also his team’s top scorer this season.

Earlier this month he had already scored in the 2-2 draw with Valencia, reports Morocco World News. He was also voted La Liga U23 player of the month for September, after scoring three goals that month, according to the same outlet.

“He’s going to define an era”

The Moroccan’s performance did not escape his coach, José Alberto López. “We have to enjoy watching him because he’s going to define an era,” said the manager, according to Africa Soccer, citing the EFE agency.

Moroccan outlet Hespress also reports that the striker harbours the ambition of one day playing for FC Barcelona. Racing Santander’s next match is not specified in the sources consulted.
