Injured with Wolverhampton on 23 October in the Championship, Ghislain Konan, Ivory Coast’s first-choice left-back, will be out for at least four weeks and will miss the November international break.
Ivory Coast will have to do without their usual left-back during the next international window. Ghislain Konan was injured on Friday 23 October with Wolverhampton in the English Championship, reports Africa Top Sports.
The 30-year-old defender will be off the pitch for at least four weeks, according to Africasoccer, which makes him unavailable for the November break. Presented as the first choice for the position by Africa Top Sports, he leaves a gap that the Ivorian staff must fill on the left side of the defence. The absence comes as the CAN 2027 qualifiers loom, with the exact dates still to be confirmed.
One first-choice left-back down
Ghislain Konan has 57 caps for Ivory Coast, according to Wikipedia, which also states that he was crowned African champion in 2023 with the Elephants. On the left side of the defence, he was the first choice, according to Africa Top Sports.
The Ivorian staff must now find a solution for the November break, says Africasoccer. The exact nature of the injury was not specified by the sources.
Wolverhampton, a recent transfer
Konan joined Wolverhampton on 1 September 2026, according to FootMercato. Born in Abidjan on 27 December 1995 according to Wikipedia, the defender previously played for Reims from 2018 to 2022, then for Al-Nassr, before a spell at Gil Vicente in 2025-2026, again according to Wikipedia. His agent is Vlado Bozinoski, according to FootMercato.
The injury on 23 October therefore comes less than two months after his arrival at the Wolves.
No return before late November
The unavailability of at least four weeks announced by Africasoccer means Konan cannot return before the end of November. He will therefore miss the international break, during which Ivory Coast will play CAN 2027 qualifying matches.
For the national team, the solution on the left side of the defence is still to be found. No replacement is named by the sources at this stage.
