AJ Auxerre: Namaso caught up in controversial goal, Archer responds!

Auxerre and Le Mans played out a draw (1-1) at the Abbé-Deschamps on Sunday 25 October 2026, on matchday 8 of Ligue 1. Danny Namaso, the AJA’s Cameroon international left winger, is at the heart of the Le Mans goal awarded by goal-line technology, before Cameron Archer’s equaliser.

Auxerre and Le Mans drew (1-1) at the Abbé-Deschamps on Sunday 25 October 2026, on matchday 8 of Ligue 1, according to Eurosport. Before the match, the AJA sat 13th and Le Mans 16th, according to LiveFoot.

Le Mans opened the scoring in the 48th minute, from a Bretelle free kick followed by a finish from Louis Buades, a Le Mans player, in front of the Auxerre goal. Danny Namaso, the AJA’s left winger and Cameroon international, was reportedly pushed into scoring an own goal, according to Maxifoot. The goal was awarded after a goal-line technology review, despite Auxerre’s protests.

A goal that sparks debate

Namaso therefore finds himself at the centre of the controversy, even though he already carries weight in the AJA’s attacking record. In Ligue 1 2025/26, he had scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists, according to FotMob. Born on 28 August 2000, he had also scored a brace and provided an assist in Auxerre’s 3-1 win at Le Havre, their first away win of the season, according to Sport News Africa.

Archer responds in the 56th minute

Cameron Archer, the Auxerre striker, brought the two teams level in the 56th minute. It was his fifth goal in six matches, according to Maxifoot. Before this match, Archer and Namaso had scored seven of the AJA’s ten goals excluding own goals, according to Sport News Africa.

A share of the points that leaves regrets

Over the last five meetings between the two clubs, Auxerre have three wins, Le Mans one and there has been one draw, Camfoot recalls. This share of the points therefore fits into a run that has been rather favourable to the Auxerre side.

Le Mans, who have won none of their three away matches in Ligue 1 this season according to Sport News Africa, found the breakthrough first before settling for the point from the draw. Louis Mafouta and Adil Bourabaa had each scored four goals before this match, but Bourabaa, injured, was unavailable.

The sources consulted do not make it possible to date Auxerre’s next Ligue 1 match.
