Elye Wahi, who equalised on 60 minutes, drove OGC Nice to a 2-1 win at Stade Brestois on matchday 8 of Ligue 1, and is also credited with the assist for Nice’s second goal by Sofiane Diop, according to Mondialsport.ci.
The Aiglons came from behind to beat Stade Brestois 2-1 on 24 October on matchday 8 of Ligue 1. Trailing after Brest striker Ludovic Ajorque opened the scoring as early as the 15th minute, Nice responded, and Elye Wahi, a forward of Ivorian origin, was at the heart of that response, according to Mondialsport.ci.
Wahi equalised on the hour mark (60th minute). The winning goal, scored by Morocco international attacking midfielder Sofiane Diop in the 83rd minute, is also credited by Mondialsport.ci, which attributes the assist on that move to Wahi. According to L’Afropéen, this is Nice’s first away win in the league in more than a month.
Wahi confirms his return to form
Having already scored the previous weekend against Olympique Lyonnais, Wahi is delivering again and appears to be rediscovering his best form in the red-and-black shirt, according to Mondialsport.ci. A forward of Ivorian origin who has played for Montpellier, Lens and Marseille, he is confirming his return to form at a time when Nice need points.
The assist attributed to Wahi on Diop’s goal, however, rests solely on Mondialsport.ci. His equaliser, by contrast, is reported by the same source.
Diop among the top African scorers
With 5 goals in the league this season, Sofiane Diop is among the top African scorers in Europe’s five major leagues, according to FootAfrique24. The Moroccan attacking midfielder, a Morocco international, scored the goal that swung the match in the Aiglons’ favour late on.
In goal, Franco-Senegalese goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf made several decisive saves to preserve Nice’s three points late in the game, again according to Mondialsport.ci. His role was essential as Brest pushed to get back on level terms.
Nice climb, Brest stall
Thanks to this win, Nice climb to 8th place in Ligue 1 with 11 points, according to Mondialsport.ci. Stade Brestois, for their part, stay 11th with 9 points.
Nice play matchday 9 of Ligue 1 next weekend, while Brest travel as they look to bounce back in the league.
