CS Sfaxien: Belouafi strikes in the 7th to open the group stage door!

A goal from Iyed Belouafi as early as the 7th minute was enough for CS Sfaxien to beat AFAD Plateau 1-0 and seal their qualification for the group stage of the Confederation Cup, 2-1 on aggregate.

At the Taïeb Mhiri stadium in Sfax, Club Sportif Sfaxien took the lead as early as the 7th minute against AFAD Plateau, in the second leg of the second preliminary round of the Confederation Cup. Iyed Belouafi, a striker, scored the only goal of the match (1-0), according to Mosaique FM.

In the first leg, played in Abidjan, the two sides had drawn 1-1. Over the two meetings, CSS prevail 2-1 on aggregate, as reported by Ahraminfo. The Sfax club thus book their ticket for the group stage of the 2026-2027 CAF Confederation Cup, according to Medi1 News.

A starting eleven named by Mohamed Kouki

Coach Mohamed Kouki named a starting eleven comprising Dahmen, Maaloul, Mundeko, Mathlouthi, Derbali, Mbe, Trayi, Trabelsi, Mutyaba, Belouafi and Loulendo, according to the line-up revealed by Mosaique FM. ES Zarzis eliminated by Real Bamako

This qualification takes on particular significance for Tunisian football. The country’s other club involved in the tournament, ES Zarzis, were eliminated by Real Bamako, Medi1 News reports. CSS’s qualification thus makes up for that exit.

The context of the match was also marked by a restriction: supporters’ access to the Taïeb Mhiri stadium was limited to annual subscribers, Mosaique FM specifies.

The draw in sight

The draw for the group stage of the Confederation Cup is scheduled for 28 October 2026. CSS will learn their future opponents there.

Until then, the Sfax club must also play a postponed Ligue 1 Tunisian match against ES Métlaoui, which is still to come.
