Valued at €5 million on the transfer market, Reims’ Seydou Dembélé has drawn praise from Adama Diefla Diallo, his former coach with the Mali U17s, who also points out the tactical gaps still to be fixed.
Seydou Dembélé’s stock has risen. According to recent transfer market valuations, the Stade de Reims attacking midfielder is now worth an estimated €5 million. The player was trained at the Jean-Marc Guillou (JMG) Academy in Bamako.
His former Mali U17 coach, Adama Diefla Diallo, gave his view on the player to AfricaFoot. He praised his qualities while recalling the areas for improvement that remain.
Pace and explosiveness as assets
The Mali U17 coach, who guided Dembélé to the final of the 2025 U17 AFCON, first stresses the player’s range. “He can do everything with the ball. Physically, it’s true he isn’t big, but he’s very quick. That’s a major asset,” he told AfricaFoot. Pace and explosiveness therefore make up for a relatively modest frame.
That profile stood out in youth competitions. At the U17 World Cup, Dembélé opened the scoring as early as the 17th minute against New Zealand to set his team on their way. In the quarter-finals of the U17 AFCON, he scored a spectacular goal into the top corner in the 42nd minute against Tunisia.
The tactical gaps to fix
The picture isn’t perfect, though. Diallo acknowledges significant areas for improvement, particularly in discipline and tactical positioning. “Then, tactically, he has a few gaps, he has a lot to learn tactically. You also understand, because he was very young with me. So he had that margin,” he continued to AfricaFoot.
Dembélé joined Stade de Reims to continue his training and development at professional level.
Expatriate talents in his generation
Dembélé is not an isolated case in his generation. With the Aiglonnets, he played alongside other expatriate talents, including Ndjicoura Bomba, now at Leverkusen, and Tiémoko Berthe, at Villarreal.
Stade de Reims face US Boulogne on matchday 10 of Ligue 2.
