Wydad Casablanca officially confirmed on Friday the appointment of Nasreddine Nabi as head coach, until the end of the season with an option to extend. The 61-year-old Tunisian replaces the Portuguese Paulo Sérgio Brito, the club’s former coach, and is due to take charge of his first match on Saturday in Botola Pro.
Wydad Casablanca announced on Friday 23 October 2026 the appointment of Nasreddine Nabi as head coach, as reported by Soccer Laduma. The 61-year-old Tunisian coach has signed until the end of the current season, with an option to extend, according to Dailysports.
He succeeds the Portuguese Paulo Sérgio Brito, who was dismissed by mutual agreement after a tricky start to the season, YSscores reports. The Tunisian has already taken a training session to get to know his squad, according to Dailysports. His first match in the dugout is scheduled for Saturday 24 October in Botola Pro.
A turnaround to begin without delay
Wydad sit on 5 points after 4 rounds of Botola Pro, with one win, two draws and one defeat, according to L’Opinion. It is in this context that Paulo Sérgio Brito was dismissed.
The club’s statement sets out the framework: “Wydad Athletic Club announces the appointment of the Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi as head coach of the first team until the end of the current sporting season.” The Casablanca hierarchy places the choice within a broader strategy: “This appointment is part of the club’s strategy aimed at drawing on the experience and coaching skills of Nasreddine Nabi to lead the first team into the next phase, to work on developing its performances and to strengthen its competitive presence in various competitions.”
A CV built in Africa
The chosen profile has several spells on the continent. With Young Africans, Nasreddine Nabi had led the club to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2022-2023 campaign, YSscores recalls. He also coached AS FAR Rabat, where he finished second in the Moroccan league in the 2023-2024 season and played in the Coupe du Trône final.
His spell at Kaizer Chiefs also ended with a trophy: he left the South African club after winning the 2024-2025 South African Cup, according to YSscores. His staff is not yet finalised: former Morocco international goalkeeper Tarik El Jarmouni and Naïm Aarab are tipped for his technical team, L’Opinion reports.
A brief spell at Raja Casablanca
Nasreddine Nabi had briefly joined Raja Casablanca, Wydad’s historic rivals, in June 2026. The venture ended with a contract termination by mutual consent on 31 August 2026, due to differences over recruitment, according to Soccer Laduma. A few months later, the coach has therefore joined the opposing camp.
