Women’s Club World Cup: Africa will have its ticket to the United States!

  • Egypt, EN

FIFA officially confirmed on Thursday the first Women’s Club World Cup, to be staged in the United States from 5 to 30 January 2028. The winner of the CAF Women’s Champions League will represent Africa there.

The first Women’s Club World Cup is coming to life. This Thursday, 22 October 2026, FIFA officially confirmed the launch of the competition and its calendar, according to information reported by Foot Africa. The inaugural tournament will be held from 5 to 30 January 2028.

The FIFA Council has entrusted the organisation of this first edition to the United States. A decision that opens the door to the continent’s best women’s clubs: the winner of the CAF Women’s Champions League will be there, up against the global heavyweights.

A line-up of continental champions

The chosen format provides for a competitive line-up bringing together the champion clubs of each continental zone, FIFA says. The tournament will therefore bring together the African champion and their counterparts from the other zones for a global gathering in the winter of 2028.

Several teams have already secured their qualification, according to the progress report released by the world governing body. The total number of participants and the draw arrangements are not specified at this stage, but the framework is set: the continental winners will meet on American soil.

Egypt on the front line

For Africa, the ticket will go through the CAF Women’s Champions League. The final phase of the 2026 edition is scheduled from 1 to 15 November in Egypt, CAF recalls. The name of the continental representative in the United States will therefore be decided on Egyptian pitches.

This November date will offer an African team a ticket to the first world edition in the history of women’s club football. A major stake for the sides involved, fourteen months out from the American event.

United States chosen for its infrastructure

FIFA justified its choice by the excellence of American infrastructure and the massive interest in women’s football across the Atlantic. The FIFA Council confirmed the host country on the basis of “the quality of its infrastructure and services, as well as the interest shown by the various stakeholders in women’s football”, according to the statement cited by Foot Africa.

The confirmation was welcomed by all the continental confederations as a historic step forward for the professional status of women players.

This decision marks the culmination of a global development project driven for several seasons by the world governing body, Foot Africa notes. The Egyptian final phase, from 1 to 15 November 2026, must allocate the African places.
