Morocco: Mayssa Baha, Barcelona prodigy, chooses the Atlas Lionesses!

Barcelona forward Mayssa Baha, 15, has publicly confirmed her definitive commitment to the Morocco national team in an interview with the FRMF reported by Afrik-Foot, despite being eligible for Spain and France.

Born in Spain in 2011, the Barcelona forward had every reason to hesitate between three flags: Spain, France and Morocco. In the end she chose the third option, making her decision official in an interview with the FRMF relayed by Afrik-Foot.

At 15, Mayssa Baha has already played the last U17 World Cup in Morocco colours, at 14, as the youngest participant in the tournament, according to Goal.

A record for precocity at Barça

At the end of September 2026, Mayssa Baha became the youngest scorer in the history of FC Barcelona and the Liga F, at 15 years, 8 months and 10 days, in a match against Logroño, Goal reports. She broke the previous record, held until then by Vicky López.

For a player born in 2011, the feat is remarkable: she is already in the record books of the Catalan club and the Spanish league, and she is not yet sixteen.

The Spanish federation had, moreover, multiplied its efforts to try to convince her to change her sporting nationality, Afrik-Foot indicates. The approaches came to nothing: the player chose the Atlas Lionesses.

A family affair

Because Morocco is also a matter of blood in the Baha family. Mayssa is the daughter of Nabil Baha, former Moroccan international forward and current Morocco U23 coach, and the sister of Ziyad Baha, 17, a forward at Olympique de Marseille and with the Morocco U20 team. The youngest’s choice fits into a line already well established.

“It is a great honour for me to wear the Morocco shirt and to follow the example of my father and my brother,” she told the FRMF, according to Afrik-Foot. A family loyalty that goes back to childhood: “The first time my brother signed up for football, I tried to do the same thing as him. And I loved it, I loved it a lot the first time I caught the ball.”

Precocity is nothing new in her career either: Mayssa Baha had started with the Morocco U17s at just 12, again according to Goal. Her U17 World Cup played at 14 is the next step.

What comes next with Barça and the Lionesses

The challenge now is to combine a club and a national team at 15. With FC Barcelona, Mayssa Baha will play the coming Liga F matches, where her name now features among the club’s and the league’s precocity records.

On the national team side, the next date is the upcoming Morocco women’s teams camp.
