CAF: Motsepe convenes virtual ExCo ahead of Super Cup and Awards!

CAF president Patrice Motsepe gathers his Executive Committee by videoconference on Thursday 22 October at 14:00 GMT to prepare the Super Cup, the General Assembly, the CAF Awards and the AFCON bidding process.

The Confederation of African Football announced, in a statement published on 21 October 2026, that an emergency virtual meeting of its Executive Committee will be held. The proceedings will begin on Thursday 22 October at 17:00 Cairo time, 14:00 GMT, under the chairmanship of Dr Patrice Motsepe, who has led the body since March 2021.

The agenda features several upcoming dates on the continental calendar: the Super Cup, the Ordinary General Assembly, the CAF Awards and the bidding process to host the next Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. According to CAF’s Communication Division, the ExCo members “will consider several matters, including preparations for upcoming CAF events… as well as the bidding process for hosting the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations”. No decision has been made public at this stage.

Three events and one long-term issue

The nearest date is the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup, scheduled for 8 November 2026 in South Africa. The Executive Committee members will review the files and preparations, a little more than two weeks before the event.

Next comes CAF’s Ordinary General Assembly, scheduled for 21 November 2026 in Nigeria, whose preparations are on the agenda. Before the spotlight moves to Lagos for the CAF Awards 2026, set for 7 December 2026, the ceremony, described as prestigious in the statement, is also on the list of deliberations.

The ExCo will also look at the bidding process to host the next editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. On this point, as on the others, CAF has given no details on the status of the bids or on possible candidates.

A round-up of the African football family

The session will bring together the main leaders of African football from the various zonal unions: UNAF, UFOA, COSAFA, CECAFA and UNIFFAC.

The statement also mentions, among the priority items, the holding of the Africa Cup of Nations Beach Soccer in Senegal. The subject is cited without further details on the schedule or the progress of the competition.

The meeting comes as three major events follow one another between 8 November and 7 December 2026, from the Super Cup to the CAF Awards.

Resolutions expected after the discussions

An official communication of the resolutions adopted is expected to be sent to the media after the discussions. The statement of 21 October does not prejudge the decisions that will be taken on Thursday.

The statement, however, gives no date for the Africa Cup of Nations Beach Soccer in Senegal.
