Rangers are reportedly delaying their decision on the purchase option for Badredine Bouanani, on loan from VfB Stuttgart, according to transfer specialist journalist Ekrem Konur. The Algeria international winger will be judged over the long term.
The Badredine Bouanani case will reportedly not be settled this winter in Glasgow. According to Ekrem Konur, cited by AfricaFoot, the Rangers board have decided to postpone any decision on triggering the purchase option of the Algerian winger, currently on loan from VfB Stuttgart. The fee set for the permanent deal stands at £15.5 million, around €18.4 million.
The Scottish club do not want to rush and would rather give themselves time to assess the 21-year-old’s performances over the long term. The information, from a single source, is still to be treated as unconfirmed.
A top-corner goal, not yet a case
Bouanani opened his account for the Gers last weekend with a splendid strike into the top corner. A flash that recalls what the coaching staff appreciate about him: his technical ability to beat his man.
But that same staff are waiting for statistical consistency. The board are therefore refusing to decide during the January winter window and want to judge his displays over the long term.
“Glasgow Rangers have decided to postpone any decision regarding the triggering of his purchase option, estimated at £15.5 million, around €18.4 million, until the end of the season,” Ekrem Konur summarised for AfricaFoot.
Stuttgart keeping an eye on the Premiership
VfB Stuttgart, the loaning club, are closely monitoring the evolution of their player’s market value in the Scottish Premiership.
For his part, the Algeria international is getting regular minutes in Glasgow in order to consolidate his place in the Algeria national team. The pace of Scottish league and European cup matches gives him that opportunity.
One factor remains in Rangers’ minds: according to AfricaFoot, the €18.4 million would represent a record investment for the Scottish squad if it were to be activated.
Verdict expected in May 2027
The final decision would come in May 2027, at the end of the campaign, according to information gathered by AfricaFoot. Until then, every appearance by Bouanani in the Gers shirt will weigh in the balance.
The next fixtures to watch are Rangers FC’s Scottish league and European cup matches.
