Morocco: two games against Niger in November, in Casablanca and Rabat!

The FRMF has confirmed the organisation of matchdays 3 and 4 of Group A in the CAN 2027 qualifiers: Morocco will face Niger on 13 November in Casablanca, then on 17 November in Rabat.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has confirmed the organisation of the double header between Morocco and Niger, for matchdays 3 and 4 of Group A in the CAN 2027 qualifiers. Both games will be played on Moroccan soil, but not in the same stadium.

The first meeting is set for Friday 13 November 2026, at 20:00 GMT, at the Mohammed V sports complex in Casablanca. The second leg follows on Tuesday 17 November 2026, at the same time, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat.

Referees: a Somali, then an Ethiopian

The FRMF has also confirmed the referee appointments. In Casablanca, Somali international referee Omar Abdelkader Artan will take charge, assisted by Hamza Hajji Abdi and Ali Mahmoud Mohad. In Rabat, Ethiopian international referee Theodoros Mitko will be in the middle, with Vassika Piro Beholashit and Tigli Gizao Bilachi as his assistants.

These appointments appear in the federation’s official communication, which set out the dates and venues of the two matches.

Why Niger are on the road twice

Morocco play at home twice because Niger have no CAF-approved stadium on their territory to host international matches, according to Afrik-Foot. The Mena were initially due to host the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana. But the Ghanaian federation (GFA) pulled out: its ground is hosting Ghana-Somalia the same day, as well as qualifying matches for the 2028 Olympics.

A request from the Nigerien federation (Fenifoot) to play the game at the Stade de l’Amitié in Cotonou went unanswered by Benin, again according to Afrik-Foot. The match will therefore be played in Morocco, as will the return leg. On paper, Niger remain the home team on matchday 4 in Rabat, but the crowd and the stadium will both be Moroccan.

The host country of these two legs is on familiar ground: Morocco hosted and played in the previous edition of the CAN in 2025, according to Afrik-Foot.

Casablanca first, then Rabat

The schedule spans five days. Mohamed Ouahbi’s team, with Ouahbi as Morocco’s head coach, will play first at the Mohammed V sports complex on 13 November at 20:00 GMT. Four days later, the two national teams meet again in the capital, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium, for matchday 4.

These two matches are Morocco’s next fixture in the CAN 2027 qualifiers, according to the FRMF.
