After an October camp that left no clear hierarchy between the posts, Algeria head coach Brahim Hemdani is reportedly considering refreshing his goalkeeping department and casting an eye over the domestic league, according to La Gazette du Fennec.
The goalkeeping question remains open for the Greens. According to information from La Gazette du Fennec, revealed this Monday, national head coach Brahim Hemdani is preparing a revamp of his goalkeeping department, after the last October 2026 gathering failed to establish a clear hierarchy between the posts.
The technical staff have not found an obvious number one. According to the same outlet, neither Melvin Mastil, the national team goalkeeper, nor MC Alger keeper Abdellatif Ramdane fully convinced during the camp.
The domestic option under consideration
According to La Gazette du Fennec, the national team staff are actively scouting the Algerian Ligue 1 Mobilis. FAF scouts are expected at league grounds for this week’s matches, according to the same outlet.
No Ligue 1 Mobilis goalkeeper is named at this stage. The arrival of a domestic-league keeper in the next squad therefore remains hypothetical.
A contrasting first camp
Brahim Hemdani oversaw his first camp, which ended with a draw against Burundi (2-2) and then a narrow win over Niger (2-1). For the Niger match, the head coach made no fewer than eight changes to his starting eleven.
According to LiveFoot, Hemdani openly admitted internally that neither of the last two goalkeepers is guaranteed a place in the November squad.
La Gazette du Fennec also reports this comment from its editorial team: “The casting remains open after what we saw at the national team’s last camp. Whether it’s Melvin Mastil or Abdellatif Ramdane, neither goalkeeper has really convinced.”
Time until the qualifiers
The Algerian federation is keeping faith in Hemdani at least until the end of the CAN 2027 qualifiers, reports Fennec Football. The head coach therefore has time to resolve his goalkeeping puzzle, starting with the next squad.
That squad is expected in early November for the third round of qualifiers. Algeria are still searching, according to La Gazette du Fennec, for a worthy successor to Anthony Mandréa and Raïs M’Bolhi.
