Akor Adams scored the only goal in Venezia’s win over Napoli (1-0) on Davide Nicola’s debut in the Venezia dugout. The Nigerian was given a rating of 8.2.
One goal, three points and a deliverance. Akor Adams gave Venezia their first Serie A win, at Napoli’s expense (1-0). The 26-year-old Nigerian striker burst through in the 49th minute, finishing a solo counter-attacking run to end a run of six straight defeats. A relief for the lagoon club, who were bottom with zero points before this match.
The win coincided with the debut of Davide Nicola, appointed Venezia head coach in midweek. The new Venezia boss thus records a first win for his team, who had lost their previous six matches.
A decisive breakaway
His goal is the striker’s second in Venezia colours this season, according to RotoWire. In the match he attempted 6 shots, 3 of them on target, and created one chance. He also made 3 defensive clearances, again according to the same source. Afrik-Foot gave him a rating of 8.2 for his attacking display.
Since the start of the Serie A season, Akor Adams has attempted 27 shots.
Stankovic saves De Bruyne’s penalty
Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli, the head coach’s side, had the chance to equalise. In the 68th minute, Napoli midfielder Kevin De Bruyne missed a penalty, kept out by Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic.
Napoli sit provisionally 9th in Serie A, with 10 points from 7 matches. The club have also suffered two defeats in as many Champions League league-phase outings, against Arsenal and Villarreal, according to Flashscore.
A message to the fans
After the match, Akor Adams told TVS, as relayed by Afrik-Foot: “The fans are very important to us, not only when we win matches, but also when we don’t win. Today the three points were crucial. For them, we will fight 100% in every match.”
Venezia will face Napoli… is not in the file; instead, Venezia will look to build momentum on matchday 8 of Serie A next weekend. Napoli, for their part, face FK Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday 20 October 2026, before hosting AS Roma on Saturday 24 October 2026.
