The Guinean Football Federation has set the double-header against Eritrea: first leg on 12 November 2026 in Conakry, second leg on 16 November in Cairo. A fixture that could weigh heavily in the race for a direct ticket to AFCON 2027.
The Guinean Football Federation has unveiled the official schedule for the double-header between Guinea and Eritrea, counting towards the 3rd and 4th matchdays of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, according to Guineefoot. Two fixtures in four days, starting with the first leg, which could count in the race for qualification.
The first leg will kick off on Thursday 12 November 2026 at 16:00 GMT at the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry. It marks the return of the venue after major modernisation works, the same source specifies. The second leg will be played on Monday 16 November 2026 in Cairo, Egypt, on neutral ground.
Guinea second in Group D
To gauge the stakes, one must look at the Group D standings after two matchdays. South Africa lead with 6 points, the result of two wins. Guinea occupy second place with 3 points, thanks to a victory against Kenya (1-0) and a defeat to South Africa (1-2), again according to Guineefoot.
Behind them, Eritrea and Kenya have 1 point each after cancelling each other out. Kenya’s status could nevertheless weigh on what follows: as co-host of AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania, they would be automatically qualified, according to Actusportguinee. Information that would leave only one direct ticket in play for the three other rivals in the group.
Every point could count
In this configuration, the double-header against Eritrea could give the Syli national team the opportunity to take an option on qualification, while a slip-up would complicate their race for the direct ticket.
For their part, South Africa, managed by head coach Hugo Broos, lead the group with 6 points after two wins.
The Stade du 28 Septembre makes its return
The first leg will mark the grand return of the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry after major modernisation works, a major issue for Guinea who will play at home in this opening fixture of the double-header.
