Göztepe SK have formally begun moves to extend the contract of Malcom Bokele, their 26-year-old Cameroon international centre-back. The Turkish club want to secure his future before European suitors come calling, according to AfricaFoot.
Göztepe SK are not willing to let Malcom Bokele slip away. According to AfricaFoot, the Turkish Süper Lig club have formally begun moves to extend and secure the contract of their 26-year-old Cameroonian centre-back. The aim is twofold: to improve his wages and to lengthen the term of his deal.
Talks also cover a release clause revised upwards. The news comes as the player has established himself as an undisputed starter in the Izmir club’s defensive pairing since the start of the 2026-2027 campaign. His recent performances have attracted the interest of leading European sides ahead of the next transfer windows, prompting the sporting management to act early.
An undisputed starter in Izmir
A former Girondins de Bordeaux player, Malcom Bokele is confirming his steady progress in the Turkish top flight. According to AfricaFoot, he has become an undisputed starter in Göztepe’s defensive pairing.
The defender has also been called up several times to the Cameroon Indomitable Lions camp for continental fixtures.
Talks under way
Faced with interest from leading European clubs, the Izmir sporting management have opened talks with the player’s representatives. According to AfricaFoot, these concern a contract extension coupled with a release clause revised upwards.
The Turkish club are thus keen to avoid a cut-price departure in the winter or summer market. They intend to head off any approach by improving Bokele’s wages and lengthening the term of his commitment. No agreement has been announced at this stage.
A long-term project
Beyond the financial aspect, Göztepe want to make Malcom Bokele one of the cornerstones of their long-term project. The Izmir sporting management intend to build around a defender already capped by Cameroon.
The Turkish league resumes this weekend. Negotiations between the player’s representatives and the Göztepe management are set to continue in parallel.
