Fecafoot: Samuel Eto’o accused of embezzlement, he hits back at RFI!

Targeted by a new complaint over suspicions of embezzlement of public funds in Cameroon, revealed by RFI, Samuel Eto’o, president of Fecafoot, chose Facebook to attack the media outlet’s credibility rather than the substance of the case.

Fresh turmoil around Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) and former captain. According to Afrik-Foot, he is targeted by a new legal complaint concerning suspicions of embezzlement of public funds in Cameroon. The information was revealed and broadcast by Radio France Internationale (RFI) this Thursday, 15 October 2026. At this stage, these are suspicions.

Rather than going into the details of the investigation, the former FC Barcelona and Inter Milan striker reacted with a scathing outburst on his social media, notably Facebook, published on 15 October 2026 at 16:42, according to Afrik-Foot. He directly targets RFI’s credibility and its handling of the information.

A counterattack on the media front

By targeting RFI rather than the content of the complaint, Samuel Eto’o did not go into the details of the ongoing investigation, according to Afrik-Foot. He disputes the way the information was handled, which leaves the substantive questions raised by the complaint unresolved.

This outburst came on the very day RFI broadcast the information. A formal response from Fecafoot’s legal department is expected.

A presidency under pressure

This case adds to a series of legal and institutional turbulences around his presidency at Fecafoot in recent months, Afrik-Foot reports. The agency does not establish a causal link between these episodes, but the case fits into an already charged climate for the leader.

On the continental stage, Samuel Eto’o is also mentioned among the potential candidates for the next CAF presidential election, according to Foot-Africa.com.

On the national team front, Cameroon recently dominated Ivory Coast 1-0 during the previous international window. The Indomitable Lions occupy 42nd place in the world in the October FIFA ranking, according to Afrik-Foot.

Hakimi and Dibango in the rearview mirror

On the European stage, Samuel Eto’o’s record for African appearances in the Champions League (78 appearances) has just been surpassed by Achraf Hakimi (79 appearances), according to Foot-Africa.com. In the Champions League again, his feat of three assists in a single match was equalled the day before by his compatriot Yvan Dibango against Liverpool, Afrik-Foot reports.

In the women’s game, Cameroon qualified by default against Guinea and will face Ivory Coast in the third qualifying round for the 2028 Olympics, Afrik-Foot specifies.
