PSG: Hakimi can overtake Eto’o and claim a place on the African Champions League podium!

Achraf Hakimi, the Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco right-back, level with Samuel Eto’o in 3rd place on the African Champions League list (78 matches), will pull clear of him on Wednesday at the Etihad if he comes on.

Paris Saint-Germain travel to Manchester City on Wednesday 14 October 2026 for matchday 2 of the Champions League league phase. An official fixture that could shake up a historic African ranking, provided Achraf Hakimi comes on at the Etihad Stadium.

The 27-year-old right-back has made 78 Champions League appearances, level with Samuel Eto’o, the Cameroon football legend. A substitute appearance would take him to 79 and put him alone on the African podium, behind Mohamed Salah (98 matches) and Didier Drogba (92 matches), according to data compiled by Foot Africa.

Another record already broken at PSG

One milestone, however, has already been passed. Hakimi celebrated his 215th appearance in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain, moving ahead of Maxwell (214) to become the club’s most-capped foreign full-back.

The Moroccan’s 3rd place on the African Champions League list is nonetheless conditional on him coming on against the Citizens. Manchester City – Paris Saint-Germain, matchday 2 of the Champions League league phase, is scheduled for Wednesday 14 October 2026 at the Etihad Stadium.
