Six games, one win, six points. Manchester United are enduring their worst Premier League start since the 1986-87 season. On Saturday, against a Tottenham side reduced to ten men, the Red Devils let victory slip once again (1-1). And yet Bryan Mbeumo had done the hard part.
The Cameroon international opened the scoring in the 73rd minute with a left-footed shot across goal, against the run of play. According to Afrik-Foot, he had long been starved of usable service. But Dominic Solanke equalised in stoppage time. In other words, Mbeumo did his job, the team did not follow.
A lonely leader
The former Brentford forward, signed for €75 million excluding bonuses in 2025, is confirming his status as a headline act, both at club level and with the Indomitable Lions, where he has taken on more attacking responsibility since AFCON 2025. The problem is everything else: United cannot hold a lead, even against ten Londoners who are still without a win.
Michael Carrick has no time to catch his breath. On Tuesday, the Mancunians travel to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. And Mbeumo will once again have to carry the attack.
