According to Foot Mercato, a little-known €15 million clause could force Morocco international Nayef Aguerd out of Olympique de Marseille as early as this summer — and the mechanism is a strange one.
The anchor of Marseille’s backline and a respected dressing-room leader, Nayef Aguerd had established himself in a single season as one of OM’s key men. The Atlas Lion, who arrived last summer from West Ham for around €23 million and is tied to the club until 2030, looked set to stay for the long haul. But one line in his contract has changed everything.
According to Foot Mercato, a clause set at €15 million was reportedly inserted when he signed. The principle: if a club tables that figure, Marseille would be obliged to let him go. And if they refuse, the club would then have to double their defender’s salary — double or nothing, quite literally. With OM under financial pressure, and with the Morocco international — despite an injury-hit campaign — said to retain several concrete suitors in Europe and the Gulf, the situation could escalate quickly.
