Stade Brestois left-back Daouda Guindo is heading for the exit. According to French outlet L’Équipe, the 23-year-old Malian defender has reached a preliminary agreement with Stade de Reims ahead of next season. With his contract expiring in June, the Bamako-born fullback represents a prime free-transfer opportunity.
It was a brief stay in Brittany. Guindo arrived at Brest in the summer of 2025 on a free transfer after an impressive pre-season trial, having previously developed his game at Red Bull Salzburg’s academy system in Austria. The Mali international made around twenty Ligue 1 appearances this season — enough to prove he belongs at the top level. Consistent, defensively reliable and physically imposing at 1.83m, Guindo caught the eye of Reims, who moved quickly to secure his signature.
The deal is all the more attractive for the Champagne-based club given it comes at zero cost: Guindo’s deal at Brest expires at the end of June. L’Équipe reports that talks are well advanced and that the player has already given his green light. For Malian football, the news is a welcome one — an Eagle of Mali remaining in Ligue 1 is a boost for the national team, currently pushing hard in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. An official announcement is expected soon.
