Le Havre target Demba Ba to succeed Mathieu Bodmer as sporting director

Le Havre could soon turn an important page in its sporting structure. Following the departure of Mathieu Bodmer, the Normandy club has made Demba Ba its priority for the role of sporting director, according to information reported by L’Équipe and picked up by several specialist outlets. The former Senegal striker, now executive chairman of USL Dunkerque, stands out as HAC’s preferred profile to revive its sporting project.

Demba Ba’s candidacy holds particular appeal at Le Havre thanks to his knowledge of the elite game and his ability to build up a club with measured resources. At Dunkerque, he has established himself as a central figure in the club’s sporting development, with his management praised for the team’s progress, the promotion of young players and the rollout of a broader momentum around infrastructure and the academy.

Talks between Le Havre and Demba Ba are said to be well advanced, even though no definitive agreement has yet been reached. At the same time, the name of Romain Decool, currently Dunkerque’s head of recruitment, is also circulating among the options being studied by the Le Havre club — evidence that HAC is weighing a more wide-ranging overhaul of its sporting department.

Should this appointment be confirmed, Le Havre would be banking on a recognised figure in French football, capable of bringing a modern, ambitious vision to the club. For Demba Ba, it would mark another notable step in an already eye-catching career change, with a sizeable challenge ahead: making people forget Mathieu Bodmer and establishing HAC on a lasting footing of sporting stability.
