World Cup 2026: DR Congo hold Denmark to a 0-0 draw before facing Portugal

The Democratic Republic of Congo held Denmark to a goalless draw on Wednesday 3 June 2026 in Liège, in their final warm-up before the 2026 World Cup.

For their last test before the big stage, the Leopards more than held their own. At the Maurice Dufrasne stadium in Liège, Belgium, DR Congo stood firm against Denmark, a well-drilled European side, and earned an encouraging clean sheet. The downside lay up front: still lacking sharpness in the final third, the Congolese failed to convert their clearest chances, especially in the second half. Plenty of intent and some neat collective passages, but the finishing needs work — the message is clear. Against a disciplined Danish team, aggressive in the duels, the fixture served as a genuine dress rehearsal.

Picking Denmark as sparring partner was no accident. Eight days before their opener, DR Congo wanted to measure themselves against a side resembling Portugal, their first opponent in Group K. And the road ahead looks demanding: Portugal on 7 June, Colombia on the 23rd, then Uzbekistan on the 27th. With the second friendly against Chile called off, this match was the Leopards’ only full rehearsal before the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Enough to blend caution and hope back in Kinshasa.
