Northern Ireland vs Guinea: Syli National Begin Their Road to AFCON 2027

Guinea take on Northern Ireland this Thursday, June 4 at 6 p.m. (Paris time) at the Estadio Ciudad de La Línea in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz province, Spain): a FIFA-window friendly that kicks off the Syli National’s build-up to AFCON 2027.

It’s off to Andalusia for the Guineans. Based at a training camp in Málaga since late May, Paulo Duarte’s Syli National are using this international break to test themselves on neutral ground. The Portuguese coach called up 25 players, blending Europe-based regulars with home-league talent — including striker Yakhouba Gnagna Barry of Horoya AC. The stated aim: sharpen their understanding before the start of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for September.

Across from them, Northern Ireland (ranked 69th by FIFA) are also searching for rhythm, away from the 2026 World Cup and ahead of their Nations League campaign. On the Guinean side, preparations have been slightly disrupted: injury withdrawals and administrative delays affecting some players’ arrivals forced Duarte to reshuffle his group. Still, it remains a real-world test, valuable for gauging where the Syli stand before the games that matter. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. CEST (4 p.m. GMT).
