Nigeria: Super Eagles pegged back by Poland in stoppage time

Twice in front, Nigeria were held to a 2-2 draw by Poland on Wednesday 3 June 2026 at Warsaw’s Stadion Narodowy. Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu had put the Super Eagles ahead, only for the hosts to level deep into stoppage time. A cruel finish that raises a real question going forward.

Nigeria had victory within touching distance. In front of nearly 58,000 fans at the Stadion Narodowy, Eric Chelle’s side had done the hard part. Terem Moffi fired the Super Eagles ahead in the 25th minute before Kacper Potulski levelled right on half-time (45′). After the break, Nigeria regained the lead from the penalty spot, converted by Paul Onuachu in the 77th minute. At that point, everything pointed Nigeria’s way: attacking power, sharpness in the danger areas, and the kind of game-management that decides friendlies.

Then football delivered its harshest lesson: a match lasts until the very last second. Deep in stoppage time (90’+5), Przemysław Wiśniewski pounced on a pass from Norbert Wojtuszek to equalise (2-2) and silence Warsaw — at least the Nigerian camp. The result offers two readings. The encouraging one: the Super Eagles’ attack delivered, with two different scorers and a convincing forward line. The worrying one: holding on to a late lead remains unfinished business. At this level, one second of complacency wipes out an hour of effort. For Nigeria, the message is clear ahead of what comes next: scoring isn’t enough — they must learn to shut the door.
