Abdelli dropped from Marseille squad: the dressing room bust-up that changed everything

Substitute Himad Abdelli clashed violently with coach Habib Beye after OM’s 1-1 draw against Nice. The Algerian midfielder has been left out of the squad for the trip to Nantes — a snub that looks like the beginning of the end of his Marseille adventure.

The dressing room confrontation at the Commanderie was explosive. Following Marseille’s home draw against Nice (1-1), manager Habib Beye directly confronted Himad Abdelli, who had come on as a substitute in the 81st minute. Beye blamed the 26-year-old Algerian international for the ball loss that led to Nice’s converted penalty in the 88th minute, and criticised his lack of defensive effort. Abdelli’s response was cutting: « Don’t talk to me like that, you’re not my father — and I wasn’t the only one who came on. » Several senior players stepped in to defuse the situation, but the damage was done, revealing a deeply troubled atmosphere inside the club.

The fallout was immediate: Abdelli did not travel with the squad to Nantes for Matchday 32 (Saturday, May 2nd, 3pm), leaving the training ground alone by car. The decision was a bold one from Beye, with Marseille already without Weah, Pavard and Kondogbia. Sources including Foot01 and Onze Mondial report that Abdelli is no longer part of Beye’s plans for the final three games of the season. It marks a painful end to what was supposed to be a dream move: the Algerian midfielder joined from Angers in January 2026 describing OM as his « dream club », but managed only 8 Ligue 1 appearances with highly inconsistent performances — all against the backdrop of a season in which Marseille have fallen well short of their Champions League ambitions.
