Rennes shut the door on BVB: Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal set to extend!

  • EN, Maroc

Stade Rennais have made a firm decision regarding the future of their young Moroccan centre-back Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal. At just 19 years old, the former Mohammed VI Football Academy graduate, who joined the club in July 2024 on a deal running until 2028, is already establishing himself in the Breton side’s rotation.

He has made several starts this season in Ligue 1, recording 2 goals and 1 assist in 6 appearances, attracting interest from top European clubs, including Borussia Dortmund. According to Ouest-France and Sky Sport Germany, BVB are closely monitoring the defender to strengthen their back line. However, Rennes have no intention of selling him during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Trained in Morocco, Aït Boudlal has developed quickly at Roazhon Park. Loaned to Amiens SC at the end of the 2024–2025 season, where he made 9 appearances in Ligue 2 and provided an assist, he has returned stronger and is now emerging as a potential starter for Rennes.

A Moroccan international with one cap, his market value is estimated between €1.5 million and €10 million according to Transfermarkt, but Rennes are reportedly valuing him at no less than €25 million for any future transfer. His rapid rise has not gone unnoticed by Borussia Dortmund, who see him as an ideal defensive prospect.

Rennes are now pushing for a contract extension beyond 2028 to secure their prized asset. The objective is clear: allow Aït Boudlal to establish himself as a regular starter and increase his value before considering any negotiations.

At a time when the Breton club is aiming for European qualification in Ligue 1, the 19-year-old centre-back is viewed as a key pillar of the club’s medium-term project. Despite growing interest from Dortmund and other top clubs, Rennes remain determined to protect their investment.

Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal embodies the success of Rennes’ recruitment strategy in Morocco. His determination and strong performances—including a recent goal—have justified the coaching staff’s trust. While Dortmund continue to push, Rennes have shut the door: the young talent will remain in Brittany to continue his rapid rise and contribute to the club’s European ambitions.
