Salah to Serie A? Jamie Carragher makes a statement that raises eyebrows

The announcement of Mohamed Salah’s departure from Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025–2026 season has shaken the football world. The 33-year-old Egyptian winger confirmed the news through an emotional video on his social media, marking the end of a legendary era at Anfield, where he scored 255 goals and won two Premier League titles. While rumors had already linked the Egyptian star with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, a former teammate has now offered a surprising perspective.

In the The Overlap podcast, Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool legend, delivered an unexpected take: “I can see him in Italy, at a top club.” For the former defender, Salah has no intention of slowing down and still dreams of shining in the Champions League rather than chasing a final payday in the Middle East. At 33, the Egyptian’s obsession with records and legacy could push him toward a prestigious challenge, far from what some see as a “retirement move” in Saudi Arabia.

Even though Saudi clubs were reportedly ready to offer massive financial packages without a transfer fee for Liverpool, Carragher believes Salah’s hunger for European glory will prevail. Serie A, with giants like Inter, Juventus, and AC Milan, would provide the perfect stage to extend his legacy. The United States is also seen as a potential destination, but Italy offers the intensity of Champions League nights, aligning with the ambitions of the player who transformed Liverpool.

Despite his imminent exit, Salah remains a key figure for the club. Recently sidelined with an injury, he is now a doubt for the Champions League quarter-finals against Paris Saint-Germain (April 8 and 14). Manager Arne Slot is hoping for a quick return from his star forward, once again highlighting the Egyptian’s lasting impact. Wherever he goes next, Mohamed Salah is set to keep writing football history.
