Victor Diagne joins La Linguère de Saint-Louis: a crucial boost in the fight for Ligue 1 survival

ASC La Linguère de Saint-Louis, a historic club in Senegalese football, has officially announced the appointment of former international Victor Diagne as assistant coach. The announcement, made on March 17, 2026, via the club’s social media channels, aims to strengthen the technical staff at a critical point in the season.

Victor Diagne, who previously played for Jaraaf and Belgian side Germinal Ekeren, brings valuable expertise and international experience to the team led by Abdoulaye Sy. “His experience and technical skills will strengthen our coaching staff and help the team achieve its sporting goals,” the club stated in its official release. Founded in 1969 through the merger of Espoir de Saint-Louis and La Saint-Louisienne, the northern club boasts an impressive record, including a Ligue 1 title in 2009 and four Senegal Cup victories.

Currently sitting 13th out of 16 teams in the Senegalese Ligue 1 standings, La Linguère is facing a difficult period and fighting to avoid relegation. Based at Stade Mawade Wade, the club hopes this new addition will spark a positive turnaround for the rest of the season, following mixed results such as the recent 1–1 draw against ASC Walidaan. Supporters of the “Samba Linguère” are eagerly awaiting a swift recovery.

This move is part of La Linguère’s broader strategy to professionalize its structure since returning to the top flight in 2009. Victor Diagne, a former player of Jeunesse Amicale de Ouagou Niayes (JAON), is seen as the ideal assistant coach to stabilize the team and help secure its place in Senegal’s Ligue 1.
