Long considered about leaving in recent months, Egyptian international Mostafa Mohamed has ultimately stayed at FC Nantes. Several clubs like RC Lens, Paris FC, and Neom SC had shown interest, but no transfer materialized. In an interview with Ouest-France, the 27-year-old striker explained that his choice was closely linked to the change of coach at the club.
Mostafa Mohamed revealed that Antoine Kombouaré, the former Nantes coach, was « the worst coach » he ever had and that he considered leaving if Kombouaré remained. This lack of confidence under Kombouaré made Mohamed seriously think about departure. The arrival of Luis Castro, the new manager with a winning mentality who trusts him, completely changed the situation. Mohamed thus decided to stay, convinced the club could aim higher than just fighting relegation.
Sportingly, Mostafa Mohamed is counting on a strong season under Luis Castro’s leadership, affirming that Nantes will not only play to avoid relegation but to qualify for European competitions. Under contract until June 2027 with an annual salary of about 1.77 million euros and a market value estimated at 5 million euros, the former Galatasaray striker remains an important asset for the Canaries.
This season, he has played five matches, scoring one goal in 409 minutes. The club hopes his performance will improve with a stabilized squad and a coach who trusts him. FC Nantes is preparing for their upcoming match against Toulouse, showcasing the renewed ambition of the team, strengthened by the loyalty of their Egyptian striker.
