Paris FC tried to recruit Sofyan Amrabat, former Manchester United star

  • EN, Morocco

This summer, Paris FC showed ambition in the transfer market by targeting Sofyan Amrabat, a 29-year-old Moroccan midfielder with a rich career, including time at Manchester United. According to Foot Mercato, after a failed attempt to sign Benjamin André, the newly promoted Ligue 1 club entered discussions to convince Amrabat to join their project. Despite this interest, the player declined the offer, choosing instead to join Real Betis on loan, a competitive club in the Spanish La Liga.

Currently on loan from Fenerbahçe, Sofyan Amrabat aims to revive his career in a major league. His choice of Real Betis is explained by the possibility of regularly playing in European competitions, seen as a more valuable opportunity for his comeback than an adventure in Ligue 1 with a newly promoted team. This refusal also highlights the challenges clubs like Paris FC face in persuading experienced players to commit to projects still in development.

For Paris FC, which recently signed Pierre Lees-Melou, this recruitment attempt illustrates an aggressive transfer strategy aimed at significantly strengthening their squad to ensure survival in the top division. However, Amrabat’s refusal underscores the limitations of recently promoted clubs when competing with more established European teams capable of attracting high-level players.

Sofyan Amrabat’s career has included several notable stages, including a loan spell at Manchester United, where he gained international recognition, especially during the 2022 World Cup with Morocco. Under contract with Fenerbahçe, he remains central to transfer rumors, with a future possibly rooted entirely in La Liga. Sporting competition, European visibility, and personal ambitions are key factors in his current decisions, confirming that a club like Paris FC must continue its efforts to become an attractive player in French and European football.
