Olympique de Marseille appears to have definitively moved on from François Régis Mughe. According to several sources, including Africafoot and La Minute OM, coach Roberto De Zerbi no longer plans to include the young winger in his plans for the upcoming season. Considered a promising Lion Indomptable with potential, Mughe has now been confined to the reserve team, excluded from the professional squad, and faces a possible contract termination, although his contract initially runs until June 2028.
This early departure is mainly driven by financial issues. Mughe earns an annual salary of around 500,000 euros, an amount deemed too high by the club given the player’s still non-professional status and limited playing time with Marseille’s first team. After a loan spell in Greece at Kallithea, he returned to Marseille this summer, but no chance to progress within the first team was offered. His situation has led club management to seriously consider a mutual contract termination.
François Régis Mughe’s future seems to lie in Belgium, where he is expected to transfer on a free to a local first-division club, according to the latest information reported by La Minute OM. This move to Belgium could offer the young winger a new opportunity to revive his career, away from the pressure and intense competition at OM. Although viewed as a step back, this choice could be beneficial for gaining more playing time and experience.
Trained in Cameroon at the École de Football Brasseries, Mughe signed with Marseille in 2022 with high ambitions. However, his career at OM never really took off, with only a few appearances for the first team and a modest loan. The club now has to manage this delicate situation and release a player who no longer fits into De Zerbi’s sporting or financial plans, marking a premature end for this young African talent in southern France.
