Olympique de Marseille has officially parted ways with Amine Harit. Left out of the squad for the Champions League and pushed down the pecking order under Gennaro Gattuso, the Moroccan attacking midfielder has joined İstanbul Başakşehir. The Turkish club confirmed the signing this Friday, ending Harit’s mixed spell in Marseille.
Harit joined OM in 2021 and showed flashes of brilliance, particularly early on, but never truly established himself as a key starter. A series of injuries combined with strong competition in the attacking sector gradually sidelined him from the Olympians’ plans. His exclusion from the Champions League squad this summer made his situation crystal clear.
For Başakşehir, a club regularly competing at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig, Harit represents a valuable addition. Known for his creativity and versatility, the Atlas Lion will seek to revive his career in Istanbul, in a league where many North African players have already shone in recent years.
Among Marseille fans, reactions remain divided. Some regret losing a player with undeniable talent, capable of dazzling moments, while others believe he never lived up to expectations. For OM, this transfer is part of an ongoing squad rebuild, while for Harit, it’s the start of a new adventure in Turkey.
