Mariam Diakité leaves France to join Fenerbahçe Petrol Ofisi in Turkey

After several remarkable seasons at FC Fleury 91, the Ivorian international defender Mariam Diakité has officially left the French championship to join Turkey. At 29 years old, she signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Turkish club Fenerbahçe Petrol Ofisi, thereby strengthening their defensive line. This new chapter marks an important turning point in the player’s career, having played around fifty matches with Fleury 91, to which she contributed her experience and defensive solidity.

Born in Ivory Coast in 1995, Mariam Diakité has distinguished herself as one of the best players in her role in the French women’s Arkema Première Ligue. She is known for her defensive qualities and positioning sense, having participated notably in the Women’s World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivorian national team. Her departure is seen as a significant loss for Fleury 91 but also a major asset for Fenerbahçe, which aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the Turkish Women’s Super League.

Fenerbahçe Petrol Ofisi is a growing club in Turkish women’s football, with an active recruitment policy to build a strong and experienced squad. Mariam Diakité’s arrival fits this dynamic, following the departure of Nina Kpaho Zoté. The team plays its home matches at the Lefter Küçükandonyadis sports complex in Istanbul and aims to establish itself firmly in the Turkish league. The addition of an experienced international player is expected to bring stability and leadership to the club’s defense.

This transfer represents a new challenge for Mariam Diakité, who leaves a competitive French league to establish herself in another developing league. Her career path illustrates the growth of women’s football in Turkey and the ability of African players to export their talents to various European and Mediterranean championships. Closely followed by the public, her progress at Fenerbahçe will be a key indicator of the club’s evolution and the level of Turkish women’s football in the coming seasons.
